Ladies:choosing the right foundation?

I am not a girly girl so picking out the right shade of make up is not an easy task for me. I dont wear it a lot but sometimes I need to. How do i go about finding the right shade so I dont walk around looking like i got attacked by a crayola? Thanks in advance!
