Should I hollow out my sculpture to prevent it cracking?

I made a sculpture of a head today, and it is now sitting on my shelf in a plastic bag (so it will dry slowly and not crack). However I am wondering if I should hollow it out to stop it cracking. It is Crayola air-dry clay, and about 1-1/2 pounds total so it's fairly substantial.
