Gift-Giving: Do you send the same thing to different people?

Aww that's cute - I get different cards for both sides of the family but that's only because their personalities are TOTALLY different. One side is humorous and the other is pretty conservative. If both sides of the families are "middle of the road" then I think it's fine to buy the same card for both. Just personalize it by writing something inside, after all a card is just a card... plenty of people put so much emphasis on the card itself but in a true artists/poetic sense, all greeting cards are kind of hokey-sappy stuff. It's what you add to it that makes it special.
